What Does Halaal Mean?

The process of producing halaal meat is based on the Islamic principles of dhabihah, which is the Islamic method of slaughtering animals. The following are the steps involved in making meat halal:
  1. The animal must be alive and healthy at the time of slaughter.
  2. The slaughter must be performed by a Muslim who is qualified to perform dhabihah.
  3. The knife must be sharp and the cut must be made quickly and cleanly across the throat, severing the jugular vein, carotid artery, and windpipe.
  4. The animal must not be stunned before slaughter.
  5. The animal must be allowed to bleed out completely before being skinned or processed.
If all of these steps are followed, the meat is considered halal.
Here are some additional details about the process of making meat halal:
  • The slaughter must be performed in the name of Allah (God).
  • The animal’s face should be turned towards Mecca.
  • The knife should be wiped clean before each use.
  • The blood must be drained from the carcass completely.
  • The meat must be handled in a respectful manner.

Halal meat is considered to be of higher quality than non-halal meat because it is believed that the animal is less stressed and experiences less pain during slaughter.

This results in a better quality of meat with a more tender texture.
